Torquay Cricket Club is seeking a Senior Men’s Coach for the 2024-25 season.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the men’s program at a cricket club with a proud history in our local community, with the support of a dedicated and united committee.

The position is a part-time contract role with salary negotiable.

Position Description – Senior Men’s Coach

ABOUT TORQUAY CRICKET CLUB

With a proud history stretching back to 1948, Torquay CC is based at Spring Creek Reserve in the heart of the town.

We field men’s, women’s, girls’ and boys’ teams, with our men’s sides competing in Division 2 of the Geelong Cricket Association. Our First and Second grade teams play on turf, with our Thirds and Fourths playing on synthetic wickets.

We are the only turf club in the Torquay/Jan Juc area and aim to be the No.1 destination for cricketers of all levels who live in our region. We aim to continually strengthen and develop our playing list and culture as we strive for a program that produces sustained success.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Men’s Cricket Coordinator on our club committee, the Senior Men’s Coach is responsible for planning and delivering a men’s cricket program that supports the club to achieve on-field success and establish a reputation for effectively developing the skills of its players.

A natural leader and strong communicator, our Men’s Coach will help to create an engaging and positive environment where all players can thrive. The coach’s role includes assisting with recruitment and player retention, appointing team captains, planning and delivering training sessions, coaching skills and tactics, and overseeing weekly selection in partnership with team captains.

The coach is responsible for team behaviour and standards across all grades.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE - ESSENTIAL

·       Cricket Australia coaching accreditation (Level One minimum).

·       Experience in management or leadership positions in a community sport or professional (job) capacity.

·       Proven cricket knowledge and skills – technical and tactical.

·       Experience planning and delivering cricket training sessions using up-to-date theories and techniques.

·       Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a range of personalities.

·       Demonstrated relationship management skills.

·       Highly competitive and committed to fair play, with ability to instil these values in others.

·       A current Working With Children’s Check is a requirement of this role.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE – DESIRABLE

·       Previous experience and success coaching a senior cricket team/club.

·       Current high level playing ability (ie. able to contribute positively to our First XI as a player) or past high level playing achievements.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Set and oversee the pre-season and in-season training schedule for our men’s program.

·       Appoint team captains and other support staff as necessary (e.g. assistant coach, net manager).

·       Assist in recruitment and retention of men’s players.

·       Set and maintain an expected level of standards and behaviours for all men’s players, to build and maintain our club’s reputation for hard but always fair play.

·       Coach cricket skills to individuals and guide captains and the broader playing group on team tactics.

·       Provide clear instruction and feedback to teams, captains and individual players.

·       Ensure and promote a healthy and safe environment for all men’s players participating in club-sanctioned training or matches.

·       Oversee selection in partnership with team captains and ensure strong communication to players around decisions and expectations.

·       Develop team morale.

·       Provide coaching advice and direction to the club’s junior coaches from time-to-time, as requested.

·       Liaise with the club committee to ensure availability of necessary training and matchday equipment.

SALARY AND DURATION

This is a part-time contract position with remuneration and duration negotiable depending

on the candidate.
