Tim Humphries new Tigers president

July 15, 2022

Tim Humphries is the new president of the Torquay Cricket Club, having been unanimously endorsed by the club’s committee.

A lifelong member of the Torquay community, Humphries started with the Tigers as a junior before going on to play for more than a decade at senior level.

He captained the club’s Second XI premiership in 2014-15 and was also an active contributor off the field, serving as vice president between 2013 and 2015.

Humphries returns to the club to fill the president’s position that had been vacant since the end of last season.

He’ll be supported by co-vice presidents Terry Hill and Mark Patton, fellow executive members Chris Speldewinde (secretary) and Nigel Sullivan (treasurer), and a dedicated committee.

Humphries said he was confident the club, with its current committee, was well placed to set up for a bright future.

“I’m honoured to take on the role and keen to assist in any way I can to move the club forward,” he said.

“We are looking to achieve on-field success for our men’s teams, led by our new coach Leigh Kentish, and really importantly, aiming to continue to grow participation in our women’s and junior programs.

“We also need to work productively with the football and netball clubs to secure long-term, year-round success at Spring Creek Reserve.”

The Torquay Cricket Club sincerely thanks past president Rob Dunne, who stepped away at the end of the 2021-22 season after four years in the role.

Dunne was awarded the prestigious Barry Sexton Trophy for best club person in April, recognising his tireless work as president.

The Tigers welcome new men’s, women’s and junior players of all standards for the upcoming season.

Men’s pre-season training begins on 1 August at the Barwon Valley Activity Centre in Belmont, and the club will hold a women’s ‘come and try’ night on 3 August at the same venue.
